Is a Colloidal Silver Acne Treatment the Real Deal for Clear Skin?

As acne sufferers, we are often willing to try anything and everything when it comes to ultimately clearing up our skin. While this quest for information and a cure is noble and can be rewarded with a long-term solution, it is still important to dig through each acne remedy advertised to see if it is legitimate or not. One such popular remedy circulating the Internet today is the use of colloidal silver for acne treatment, which I will explore in detail in this post to see if it is the acne cure that you have been looking for…

What Is Colloidal Silver for Acne Treatment?

First off, let’s establish the fact that so many sufferers of acne are just plain sick and tired of taking harsh acne medications that have a long list of side effects or using topical chemical acne products that dry out and strip their skin of its natural moisture. Who would blame them?

This is precisely why so many acne sufferers are on the quest for a natural treatment that doesn’t have any side effects, leading many people to turn to colloidal silver for acne treatment.

According to MayoClinic.com, Brent A. Bauer, M.D., reveals that colloidal silver is not a safe or effective treatment, no matter what claims are made by the manufacturer. He goes on to say that colloidal silver is not an essential mineral, even though some product manufacturers claim that it is. [1]

Colloidal silver for acne treatment is often marketed as a dietary supplement that is made of tiny particles of silver suspended in a liquid form. There are also several forms of topical colloidal silver for acne treatment that you can spray directly onto the surface of your skin.

Colloidal silver acne products are often advertised to provide an allover cure to boost the immune system and eliminate bacteria on the surface of the skin. While this sounds like the ideal premise for long-term acne treatment, there are unfortunately no scientific studies to back up these claims that have been made.

On top of that, the FDA has taken action against some colloidal silver product manufacturers for making unfounded claims.

While there is no evidence that colloidal silver acne treatments can cause long-term damage to your health, it is possible for the silver to accumulate in your bodily tissue over the years, which could cause discolorations in the surface of your skin. [1] Unfortunately, these skin discolorations are irreversible and difficult to treat, so taking a colloidal silver acne supplement or using it topically could leave you in a worse position than you started on your quest for clearing up your skin.

Let’s see what a few acne sufferers from the acne.org forums had to say about colloidal silver acne treatments…

Colloidal silvers are NOT approved by FDA. It’s only legal when it’s sold without claims to health benefits.

I’d just be generally afraid to use any type of silver on my face. There was just a guy on the news with blue skin because of silver, it as colloidal but still – doesnt make me a fan of silver. Plus, those little silver ball cookie decoration things (dragees) are banned in some states, so again, not feeling the idea of soap with silver in it.

I just recently purchased some of the soap online and I am going to start using it again once it arrives. What attracts me to this soap is the fact that it kills bacteria and fungus way deep deep underneath the skins surface. I do okay on products like Pro Activ and Bior products .. but they seem to only work on the surface skin, and regardless of how consistent I am I still breakout randomly which is so frustrating. I am hoping that this cyclic soap will help clean out deeper into my skin.

So what is the bottom line when it comes to colloidal silver for acne treatment?

While colloidal silver acne treatments may initially seem like an effective natural remedy, I would encourage you not to use any product that does not have scientific backing.

The only true long-term acne remedy lies within balancing your diet to eliminate chemicals and additives that cause toxic buildup in your body to result in chronic acne in your skin. There is no other way.

While you may be able to find quite a few natural acne products to soothe  the surface of your skin, the only legitimate way to truly clear up your complexion and heal acne is by first of all making dietary changes to transform your skin from the inside out!
