Step 5: Calculate Your Daily Protein & Fat Ratios

The Focus:Acne Formula promotes a healthy diet that is high in healthy fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates. In order to figure out the correct ratios, one has to know how many grams of protein and fat you need to consume in a day to satisfy the body’s requirements. Why so much fat?

There is a huge misconception out there that fat is unhealthy. The truth is, the correct fats are necessary for human health – and are the very best detoxifiers. To understand why it is suggested you intake a large amount of healthy fats on a daily basis, read the sub-topic Consume high “natural” fats and oils.

How do I introduce large amounts of healthy fats into my diet?

There are several ways in which you can obtain the proper amount of natural fat required by your body. These include:

  1. Cooking with healthy fats on low to medium heat before it’s smoke point
  2. Slathering coconut oil or butter onto meat or cooked vegetables
  3. Taking spoonfuls of coconut oil washed down with water
  4. The Egg Smoothie, which contains 4-6 tablespoons of healthy fats per serving.

Remember to adjust your ratios gradually

Changing over to a high fat, low carbohydrate diet too quickly can cause too many healing reactions which are unnecessary. (see Healing Reactions and Progression on the Program) It is recommended that you gradually adjust your ratios over a 1-2 week period.

Even so, you can expect some healing reactions when you introduce these healthy fats into your diet slowly. This is because your body still needs to detoxify, and providing the nutrients(fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals) your body needs allows it to do so!

A Note on Fatigue & a Lack of Energy

Most people today rely on carbohydrates(converted to glucose) as their source of energy. While we gradually change your diet over to having very low carbohydrates, your body will make the proper adjustments naturally.

At first, you may experience fatigue and lack of energy as your body makes this adjustment. Over time on a low carbohydrate diet, your body uses 10% of the healthy fat, and 60% of the protein from animal sources that you eat to convert to glucose, providing all the glucose necessary for optimal function. Your body will also rely on “ketone bodies” for energy, which it actually prefers over glucose!

These are all good changes – remember, we are not sacrificing your health to get rid of acne (aka drugs, fasting, etc) We are actually building up your immune system and health to allow your body to naturally cure itself of this disease!
